What to look for
Face swap algorithms graft a target identity onto an actor’s body, inevitably producing forensic seams where the synthetic mask meets original footage:
Face swap models overlay a rectangular or oval mask. Sudden head turns or collar interactions reveal blurriness, jitter, or skin-tone step boundaries along the jawline.
Replaced faces frequently fail to reproduce realistic saccadic eye motion, natural blink intervals, or correct corneal specular reflections matching scene lighting.
The swapped face often appears softer, smoothed, or sharper than the surrounding hair, neck, and clothing due to separate neural upscale pipelines.
Rapid speech, extreme smiles, or furrowed brows can cause the neural mask to snap or drift momentarily off the underlying actor’s bone structure.
